Update on IRC Home Repair Program intake: Temporary pause on new evaluations due to backlog and funding constraints

March 24, 2026

The Inuvialuit Regional Corporation’s (IRC) Home Repair Program has been proud to serve beneficiary homeowners across the Inuvialuit Settlement Region, enhancing energy efficiency and safety for those 50 years of age and older.

We recognize that many community members are still waiting for their homes to be assessed, and we fully acknowledge the frustration this causes. Demand for support continues to exceed our current resources, and the shortage of skilled labour has made it difficult to address the diverse needs of our communities in a timely manner.

To ensure we can complete the backlog of cases already in progress, we must pause intake of new requests for home evaluations. Please know this decision was not made lightly, and our team remains committed to responding promptly to emergency situations regarding hot water heater or furnace failures—as these are vital to community wellbeing and safety.

The future of the Home Repair Program depends on our ability to secure additional federal funding. We continue to advocate for increased support so that we may resume intake, expand eligibility and better meet the needs of all Inuvialuit beneficiaries. Your patience and understanding are deeply appreciated as we work through these challenges together.
