2019 Message from the IRC Chair - Aarigaa!
Excerpts from speeches made at 42 Director’s Meeting:
“Moving forward, we have a lot of things to do. I’ll give it a start. To all of the CC leadership the 42 Directors, thank you for your contribution, your guidance, your insight, your vision, your patience and stamina on all of the discussions. Quana, Quyanaqpak for all your input because this will guide us as an organization- a Corporation- for the next three years.
Thank you to the candidates for putting your names forward, for looking to represent Inuvialuit to the best that we can. To the leadership around the table, for giving me the honour of representing you for the next term, I am looking forward to working with you, and working with each of you, in your communities to strengthen who we are as Inuvialuit.
And with the strong IRC Board that we have, putting them back in place shows that you have faith in leadership in regards to what we have accomplished in the last few years and we can only get stronger. Recognition goes out to the key staff that do the hard work for us behind the scenes and make sure the machinery is working for us as the backbone of the organization, as well as working with the Community Corporations and other bodies like the Federal government, Territorial government, etc.
The IRC Board has now gotten direction from the 42 Directors in regards to what our work plan is- for us to now implement- dealing with anything and everything in regards to culture, language, education, economic development, human resources, as well as, most importantly, our Lands, and our rights that we have as Inuvialuit, and not only Canadians.
Basic understanding of the IFA is a starting step. Each department and individual should know the IFA to the extent of their mandate and responsibility so we can work together and to be consistent. IFA-101 will continue. The plan is now to include all of your comments, insights, and wisdom into the next draft Strategic Plan. A plan to be reviewed by the IRC Board, and then brought to the 42 Directors at the CC’s to make sure we have caught everything that you want to see, and in order to have ready to present for the community tour scheduled for early Summer.
The direction from you, yourselves, as Inuvialuit and elected leaders from your communities gives the Inuvialuit Corporate Group your priorities to implement over the next three years. Thank you for the meaningful discussions and debate on the issues.When we come out of meetings like the 42 Directors, we have our marching orders as to how to promote and strengthen our rights, and who we are as Inuvialuit. As Eddie always says, when we have very intense, deep discussions , as a people, as an organization, we might have our minor differences and issues on certain things that we might not fully agree on, but once we leave here, we leave as one people, one organization, because this is your plan, for you to work on implementing with us, within your communities, as well as broadly…and we can reach out to all Inuvialuit. We have to support each other regardless of the issues that are in place, in order to end up in the same place at the end of the day, united and one as Inuvialuit.”
