Opportunity Readiness: Community Engagement and Training

ICEDO is engaged in targeted skills development and community development activities in the Inuvialuit Settlement Region – activities that are essential to foster sustainable economic development and ensure Inuvialuit businesses and communities are well positioned to maximize economic opportunities.

The initiatives feature regional and community-level opportunity Readiness Workshops, targeted investments in Value-Added ICEDO Tools and Services, and investments to support Opportunity Readiness Research that will work to achieve meaningful and measurable results as opportunities arise.

Cruise Ship Infrastructure and Training

To take full advantage of the mounting opportunity that increased cruise ship traffic brings, ICEDO is working with community stakeholders and the Government of the Northwest Territories Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment to facilitate the development of readiness training and make investments in event infrastructure.

This initiative focuses on the communities of Sachs Harbour, Tuktoyaktuk and Ulukhaktok with an inclusive workshop geared at developing an understanding of the industry’s needs, developing shore experiences for visitors, and creating a community-wide activation plan in preparation for cruise ship visits.

Mobile Food Processing Unit and Training

In response to the growing demand for country foods and rising food prices, ICEDO has invested in the development of a certified Country Food Processing Methods training course and a purpose-built country food processing training facility that will work in concert to support the growth of the sector.

This initiative, as described in the Inuvialuit Food Security Strategic Plan, aims to sustainably maximise economic benefits from and accessibility to nutritious country foods in the ISR through awareness, skills development and product development, further promoting food security.
