For the last 32 years, the IRC Native Hockey tournament has been a weekend of excitement and entertainment organized at the same time as an Inuvialuit cultural weekend initiated a few years back. Communities in and around the region would send their best native hockey teams to participate in this annual event.
While other options are being considered- the Inuvialuit Regional Corporation and the IRC Native Hockey Planning Committee are announcing the tournaments cancellation for the Roy "Sugloo" Ipana Arena in 2021.
"IRC would have liked to hold this classic hockey event and cultural weekend" said Duane Smith, IRC's Chair and CEO; "but we must follow public health guidelines and continue to promote safety measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus."
Chair Smith has reached out to the IRC Native Hockey Planning Committee and has expressed his regrets.
