Elders Benefit Payments of $500 are available in December to all Inuvialuit beneficiaries over the age of 60.
“The Inuvialuit Regional Corporation is pleased to be able to offer a consistent payment to Inuvialuit Elders each year, and to be able to provide these payments to a growing number of our Elders,” affirms IRC Chair and CEO Duane Ningaqsiq Smith.
Inuvialuit Regional Corporation will be distributing payments to Community Corporations, mailing payments to those outside the Inuvialuit Settlement Region, and electronically depositing payments to those Elders registered for direct deposit December 2. Depending on your current location, and whether or not you applied for direct deposit, this could factor into when you receive your payment:
- Did you sign up for direct deposit? If you are an Inuvialuit beneficiary over the age of 60 who has registered with IRC for direct deposit, your payment will electronically transfer directly into your bank account. Contact IRC if your electronic fund transfer is later than December 2.
- Do you reside inside the ISR? If you are an Inuvialuit beneficiary over the age of 60 currently living in the ISR, your payment will be received by your community corporation for distribution. Please contact them for the exact date in which they will make the payment available to you.
- Do you reside outside the ISR? If you are an Inuvialuit beneficiary over the age of 60 currently living outside the ISR, your payment will be mailed on December 2. You should expect to receive your payment shortly after this date.
The Elders Benefit Payment is paid from the interest income of the $7.5 million Inuvialuit Social Development Fund. In December 2020, there will be approximately 710 Inuvialuit beneficiaries receiving Elders Benefit Payments.
