CALL FOR BOARD MEMBERS Inuvialuit Qitunrariit Inuuiarnikkun Maligaksat Society
The Inuvialuit Qitunrariit Inuuiarnikkun Maligaksat Society (“Maligaksat”) was established by the Inuvialuit Social Development Program to administer child wellbeing and advocacy programs for Inuvialuit children, youth, and families. Amongst other objectives as set out in our own law Maligaksat aims to reduce the rate of Inuvialuit involved in the Child and Family Services system and support children and families to grow strong together.
Maligaksat is responsible for developing and implementing new Inuvialuit wellness programs for children, youth, and families, including programs that serve Inuvialuit in all six communities – Inuvik, Tuktoyaktuk, Aklavik, Paulatuk, Sachs Harbour, and Ulukhaktok, as well as those living outside of the Inuvialuit Settlement Region (ISR).
The Maligaksat Board of Directors will be responsible for the approval of the strategic direction of the organization and will be on the hiring committee for an Executive Director.
This is a unique opportunity to be involved in the start-up of a broad range of support and advocacy services to benefit Inuvialuit guided by the principle that Inuvialuit are in the best position to support our own children, youth, and families.
Inuvialuit are the first Indigenous group in the North to take this step. This is the biggest change in child wellness programming in the history of the Northwest Territories and is being led by and for Inuvialuit.
The Board will meet regularly and will receive an honorarium for their time and payment for expenses.
Beneficiaries of the Inuvialuit Final Agreement are encouraged to express their interest, in confidence, in a short email and resume to: CHILDADVOCATE@INUVIALUIT.COM
All beneficiaries with questions are also encouraged to reach out by phone to Evelyn Storr, Executive Director of Beneficiary Services 1 867 777-7021 or Meghan Etter-Cockney, Director Health & Wellness at 1 867 777-7085.
The deadline for all applications is June 12, 2023, at 5:00 PM (MST).
