Major Boost: Elder payments are going up

Inuvialuit Regional Corporation is pleased to announce an increase to elder benefit payments under the Inuvialuit Social Development Fund. Beginning this year, Inuvialuit beneficiaries aged 60 and over will receive four payments of $300 each throughout the year, replacing the previous single payment of $500.

This change means eligible elders will now receive $1,200 annually—an increase of $700 per year. This boost is part of IRC’s ongoing plan to help offset the high cost of living. For many elders living on a fixed income, this additional support is especially important as it provides extra financial security and relief from rising expenses that can be difficult to manage without flexible sources of income.

Benefits of the New Payment Structure

• Greater financial support: Elders will receive more funds each year to help with living expenses.
• Improved budgeting: Regular payments provide predictable income to better manage monthly costs.
• Flexibility: Spreading payments across the year helps address seasonal needs and unexpected expenses.
• Reduced waiting time: Elders will no longer have to wait until December for their benefit, improving cash flow throughout the year.

Payments will continue to be issued via direct deposit for those registered with IRC Enrolment, and cheques will be distributed or mailed to those not registered or living outside the ISR. Payments will be released March 31, June 30, September 29 and December 31, 2026. To qualify for each payment, elders must be at least 60 years old by the date the payment is issued.
