Inuvialuit Regional Corporation invites applications for the position of Inuvialuit Statistician based in Inuvik, NT. Under the guidance of the Research Manager, the Inuvialuit Statistician is responsible for ensuring the Inuvialuit Regional Corporation has efficient/effective access to statistical data and analyzed statistical information to support policy development, decision making and program management. The Inuvialuit Statistician will further develop the Inuvialuit capacity and knowledge of statistical information related to social, cultural, education, health and economic data. Furthermore, the Inuvialuit Statistician will work closely with the Research Data Specialist and other relevant data holders to analyze key social, cultural and economic indicators of Inuvialuit populations within the Inuvialuit Settlement Region.
Prepare statistical reports and analysis for widespread dissemination in print and electronic format;
Use statistical methodologies to analyze and interpret data;
Assess and access administrative data sources for use as a statistical data;
Investigate the data and communicate with departmental specialists to fully understand the complexities of the administrative data sources;
Analyze the data using appropriate statistical techniques and produce various products, for example, funding proposals, reports to Inuvialuit leaders and for the development of programs, strategic plans and policies;
Act as IRC’s contact with Canada/NWT Bureau of Statistics, answering and completing analytical requests;
Work with the Inuvialuit Reginal Corporation staff and leaders to identify issues for further analysis and data sources.
The ideal candidate will have the following combination of education, experience and knowledge:
Post‐Secondary degree in Computer Science, mathematics with a discipline that incorporates quantitative and qualitative statistical analysis (economics and social science)
A minimum of 2 years experience in a combination of the following areas:
o Address data‐related challenges assigned by management
o Design new statistical models and data collection tools if needed o Identify patterns, trends, and relationships within data
o Provide strategic recommendations/predictions and highlight any data limitations
Strong computer skills; experience using a variety of software packages such as spreadsheets and other data platforms.
Understand legal, privacy and confidential requirements (policies, legislation and terms of information sharing arrangements.)
Knowledge of various data types, sampling methodologies, data systems and databases.
Extensive communication skills are required for clearly presenting the analysis and interpretation of statistical information, and for effectively communicating statistical information.
