IRC looks forward to developing renewed relationship with the new Premier and Cabinet of NWT.
The Inuvialuit Regional Corporation (IRC) extends congratulations to the newly selected Premier of the Northwest Territories, R.J. Simpson, as well as the soon to be announced Cabinet members. IRC wishes to express our sincere commitment to fostering a positive and collaborative relationship with the government. We believe in the importance of open communication and mutual understanding to address shared concerns.
We would like to express our optimism for reconsideration of the GNWT’s intervention to the Supreme Court of Canada regarding Bill C-92, the Act respecting First Nations, Inuit and Metis children, youth, and families, which challenges our Inuvialuit Qitunrariit Inuuniarnikkun Maligaksat – Inuvialuit Family Way of Living Law, thereby slowing the progress in our ability to look after the wellbeing of Inuvialuit children.
It is also our anticipation that the new Territorial government will proactively develop a process in collaboration with the IRC for the implementation of the Inuvialuit Final Agreement (IFA) where the GNWT has obligations to do so. A good start would be to respect Inuvialuit rights under the IFA to construct facilities throughout the Inuvialuit Settlement Region without any fees or costs.
We are eager to engage in constructive discussions to address these issues and look forward to working with the new Premier and Cabinet across the span of our shared interests and priorities.
