IRC’s land acquisition and Housing Strategy milestone.
The Inuvialuit Regional Corporation (IRC) is pleased to announce its recent acquisition of vacant land in Inuvik, NWT. The land was purchased from the Town of Inuvik (TOI) and represents a large portion of the vacant lots at the corner of Inuit Rd and Carmichael Dr E, in addition to other vacant lots in the surrounding area.
Our immediate focus for these lots is the development of single-family homes tailored to meet the specific needs of the Inuvialuit community. This initiative aims to enhance housing options and contribute to the overall wellbeing of Inuvialuit individuals and families.
This acquisition marks a significant stride forward in our comprehensive Housing Strategy outlined in the 2023-2026 Strategic Plan. By developing single-family homes, we are actively working towards fulfilling the housing goals set out in our strategic plan, promoting sustainable community growth, and ensuring the availability of quality housing for our people.
In line with our commitment to housing development across the region, we are collaborating closely with the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) to secure additional lots in various communities. This collaborative effort is geared towards advancing our housing strategy and ensuring its widespread impact, benefitting Inuvialuit residents in all our communities.
