Inuvialuit elders to receive benefit payments to help offset cost of living
Inuvialuit Regional Corporation is pleased to announce that all Inuvialuit beneficiaries 60 years of age and over (884 in total) will be issued a benefit payment of $500 on December 1, 2024. The benefit is made possible by the interest income of the $442,000 Inuvialuit Social Development Fund and was approved by the IRC board of directors at its November 19-21 meeting held in Inuvik.
Due to the current Canada Post strike, elder beneficiaries are strongly encouraged to get set-up with direct deposit before December 2, so they don’t experience a delay in receiving payments.
How funds will be distributed:
- For elders registered with IRC Enrolment for direct deposit, payments will be deposited directly to their bank account on December 1.
- For elders not registered for direct deposit, community corporations will be distributing benefit cheques in each Inuvialuit Settlement Region (ISR) community the week of Dec 2.
- For elders living outside the ISR cheques will be mailed once the strike has ended– please ensure your mailing address is up to date with IRC Enrolment.
For more information or to get signed-up for direct deposit contact IRC Enrolment at (867) 777-7000 or email enrolment@inuvialuit.com.
