Inuvialuit Regional Corporation releases second children’s storybook, “A Special Day with My Anaanak”
INUVIK, N.W.T. — September 28, 2026 — Inuvialuit Regional Corporation (IRC) has released its second children’s storybook, “A Special Day with My Anaanak,” written by Gloria Iatridis, an Inuvialuk author originally from Tuktoyaktuk, and illustrated by Inuvik-based Inuvialuk artist Tyra Cockney-Goose.
“A Special Day with My Anaanak” follows Olivia, a young Inuvialuk child, as she spends a meaningful day with her Anaanak—her grandmother—and learns about Inuvialuit traditions, culture and language. The Inuvialuit-led publication celebrates relationships between elders and youth and the sharing of knowledge across generations.
Selected through a 2021 story-writing contest, the book is available in English, Uummarmiutun, Kangiryuarmiutun and Sallirmiutun. Accompanying audiobooks support language learning and accessibility for children, families, educators and communities across the Inuvialuit Settlement Region. Inuvialuit Science & Climate Change is also publishing a companion activity book for young readers.
“This storybook brings Inuvialuit language, culture and knowledge to life for a new generation. We thank the elders, youth, beneficiaries and community partners who made it possible,” said IRC chair and CEO Erwin Elias.
IRC will distribute the storybook to schools, libraries and community organizations across the Inuvialuit Settlement Region. Outreach will include elder-led readings in Inuvialuktun and English at local schools, helping strengthen connections between elders and youth and support the sharing of Inuvialuit traditions, culture and language.
