IRC recognizes the importance of food security and nourishing young minds to be successful in school and life.

IRC is excited to announce that in order to help address rising food prices and to ensure country foods are widely available to Inuvialuit homes, IRC will be providing food baskets to school-aged families throughout the summer as part of the ISR School Food Program!

Families are asked to complete the application form and submit it to sallen@inuvialuit.com to participate in the program.

We are extremely excited to be able to deliver this program in each ISR community, and look forward to hearing from youth participants and their families as they explore healthy new foods and creative recipe options throughout the summer.

Each Inuvialuit community will have a different approach to the food basket program, based on community needs, facility availability, and community school resources. In your community, please note the following details:

Sachs Harbour:

  • Weekly, families who complete the application will be provided a credit at their local Co-op store and will receive our weekly recipes and ingredients lists to aid in their shopping.
  • Credits will be available on applicable Fridays of each week.
  • The credits are intended to provide families with the opportunity to purchase food items, assisting with exploring different recipes with their children. The credits may not be used for junk food (including pop), cigarettes, or other miscellaneous items.

Ulukhaktok

  • Weekly, families who complete the application will be asked to come to the Child Development Center on applicable Friday afternoons to pick up their food baskets from the staff.
  • A list of those applicants will be provided to staff, to assist in the distribution.
  • Each basket will include all the ingredients needed for the recipe, along with a specialized recipe card.

Paulatuk

  • Weekly, families who complete the application will be provided with gift cards to the local Northern Store, as well as sent the weekly recipe and ingredient list to aid in their shopping.
  • Gift cards can be picked up at the Youth Center on applicable Friday afternoons.
  • A list of those applicants will be provided to staff, to assist in the distribution.
  • The gift cards are intended to provide families the opportunity to purchase food items, assisting with exploring different recipes with their children. The credits may not be used for junk food (including pop), cigarettes, or other miscellaneous items.

Tuktoyaktuk

  • Weekly, families who complete the application will be asked to come to the Child Development Center on applicable Fridays to pick up their food baskets from the staff.
  • A list of those applicants will be provided to staff, to assist in the distribution.
  • In each basket will be all the ingredients needed for the recipe, along with a recipe card.

Aklavik

  • Weekly, families who complete the application will be asked to come to the Child Development Center on applicable Fridays to pick up their food baskets from the staff.
  • A list of those applicants will be provided to staff, to assist in the distribution.
  • In each basket will be all the ingredients needed for the recipe, along with a recipe card.

Inuvik

  • Weekly, families who complete the application will be asked to come to the Mamaqtuq entrance from Mackenzie Rd located at Mackenzie Hotel on applicable Fridays to pick up their food baskets from the staff.
  • A list of those applicants will be provided to staff, to assist in the distribution.
  • In each basket will be all the ingredients needed for the recipe, along with a recipe card.
