First Nations and Inuit Youth Employment Strategy

The First Nations and Inuit Youth Employment Strategy (FNIYES) supports initiatives that provides Inuvialuit youth with work experience, information about career options and opportunities to develop skills to help gain employment and develop careers. It is administered by Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) and part of the Government of Canada’s effort to enhance Indigenous Canadians’ education, participation in the labour market and economic success.

FNIYES helps youth, between the ages of 15 and 30, develop and enhance essential employability skills, increase their awareness to a variety of career options, understand the benefits of education as critical to labour market participation and gain co-operative education work and study opportunities.

Inuvialuit Regional Corporation works closely with Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) to coordinate and co-develop localized programs that will benefit youth in the Inuvialuit Settlement Region (ISR).

Current programs

  • Wage subsidies to employers in the six ISR communities that provide meaningful summer and long-term mentored work placements for Inuvialuit youth.
  • Career promotion and awareness activities
