Aarigaa! International Inuit Day!

Aarigaa!

Today is International Inuit Day, a day to celebrate and honour our unique culture, people and land.

As Inuvialuit we share many similarities with the Inuit of Alaska, Canada, Greenland, and Chukotka; yet we have a distinctly diverse culture of our own that is deeply rooted in our connection to the land of the Inuvialuit Settlement Region.

The Inuvialuit Regional Corporation has made significant progress towards developing and strengthening the relationship between the Crown (Government of Canada) and Inuvialuit through the development of the Inuit Nunangat Policy, a policy that recognizes that Inuit have unique rights, interests, and circumstances and must be recognized as distinct from other Indigenous groups.

We encourage all to use today as an opportunity to reflect and take the time to learn about the historical and current initiatives Inuvialuit and other Inuit are leading to advance our collective well-being.

IRC is very proud of the work we do on behalf of Beneficiaries across the ISR, Inuit Nunangat, and the world.

Happy International Inuit Day!

“We Eskimo are an international community sharing common language, culture, and a common land along the Arctic coast of Siberia, Alaska, Canada, and Greenland. Although not a nation-state, as a people, we do constitute a nation. …But national boundaries imply concepts which have had no place in our society where sharing is a large part of our secret of survival in the Arctic.” – Eben Hopson – September 9, 1975
